Making old standing lamps switch on and off in sync with folktronica trio Haiku Salut’s beats and twinkles.

I’ve worked with Haiku Salut for years and it’s been one of my most productive working relationships. We’ve recorded albums together and toured this project a few times. The band first approached me about this idea of having a stage swamped with antique and esoteric household lamps, all flickering and dancing to the music as it was played. My main concern when designing the live show was that it needed to be part of the band, not part of the lighting spec. It also needed to adapt to them rather than the other way around. In the end there’s a combination of technologies in here to create the show from midi automation and microphone feeds to good ol’ fashioned knob twiddling.
